Chris

Hi, I’m Chris. I’m an ex-paratrooper, adventurer, author, speaker and fundraiser but my proudest accolade by far is being a father. For 6 years before ‘Wilderness Family’, I was known as ‘Chris Walks the UK’, an identity that will be forever etched into my being. That journey changed my life in so many unexpected and incredible ways. I spent years surviving winters in a tent in some seriously extreme environments, wilderness most people would never know even existed here in the UK. I learnt how much I thrive when pushed to my limits in the wild. It’s where I feel most at home - out in the middle of nowhere with the ocean on one side of me and the mountains on the other. I found my real sense of self, my passions and a true purpose in life. I found an amazing community in the friends and followers who supported me along the way and best of all, I found a family in my beautiful Jet, Kate and Magnus. Now that I’ve become a father for the second time, my goal is to enjoy an adventurous lifestyle with my family alongside me.

Hi, I’m Kate. I’m an adventurer, educator, fundraiser, storyteller and mum. Before my life took a very unexpected twist of fate in meeting Chris, I was a former teacher come part-time adventurer. I had spent the previous 10 years teaching in inner-city London and training teachers around the UK and beyond. I was and always will be passionate about making a difference in education but I had always loved to travel and spent every opportunity I could galivanting off to far-flung corners of the globe. My adventures have taken me from the majestic mountains of Nepal and the humid jungles of Central America to the ancient valleys of Afghanistan, the sweeping beaches of Sierra Leone and the empty deserts of Oman. Once I hit my 30s, I began to love nothing more than hauling a backpack on, hitting a wild trail and spending nights under the stars in my tent on my own. I became an avid solo traveler and will always be an advocate for women going it alone in the great outdoors. That said, now my sights are firmly set on enjoying adventures outdoors with my family in tow, taking time to travel slowly together and appreciating the magic of exploring the world anew through my toddler’s eyes.

Magnus

Hi, I’m Magnus - mini-explorer, avid balance-biker and major fan of tractors, diggers (any moving vehicle really) and animals. I was born on the south coast of England in May 2022 whilst mum and dad were still walking around the UK. I spent my first two months living in a yurt on the Dorset coast where I particularly enjoyed looking up at the stars at night. My mum carried me along the whole of the south coast including all of its islands until we reached the finish line by which point, I was almost 14 months old and just about able to walk over it myself! Since then, I’ve mainly been having adventures up in Scotland whizzing around the many mountain biking tracks on the mainland as well as exploring lots of beautiful Hebridean islands. Now, mum and dad have decided to put my love for bikes at the forefront of our new adventure so I can’t wait to see where the trails take me!

Jet

We couldn’t introduce each of us without including our late, beloved dog, Jet. Chris found and adopted Jet in the first year of his walk around the UK.

From that moment on, the two were inseparable; best buddies, adventure pals, soulmates even. Years of walking the remote west coast of Scotland and its islands, sleeping in a tent every night and battling the harsh elements together day after day had cemented a bond between them that was truly unique. When I joined the walk, I fell in love with Jet immediately. She was the most beautiful dog inside and out; strong, spirited, gentle, loving and as loyal as they come. She accepted me straight away and so began an incredible bond of our own. When Magnus was born, she became both his bodyguard and his best friend. Watching their bond grow was one of the most moving and heartwarming aspects of his childhood so far. Jet is a legend in her own right, the first dog to walk the UK coastline winning the hearts of so many along the way with her goofy smiles, steadfast loyalty and crazy zoomies! Jet sadly passed away in April 2024. She will always be a much loved part of our family and forever in our hearts. She was one of a kind and has given us so many treasured memories. We love you, Jet.
